My abstract scripture & cross paintings, for me, have never been about illustration or literal interpretation. It has always been about faith expressed through abstraction, intuition, and material — allowing scripture, symbolism, and process to coexist in contemporary form. I believe my works brought a new take on how Christian art was seen in relation to modern abstract art.
I am a mixed media, abstract artist who has been creating Christian modern art since 2003, embedding scripture and spiritual symbolism into abstract paintings, collage, and found object assemblage long before this style became widely visible in contemporary art spaces. My work exists at the intersection of faith and modern abstraction — reverent, personal, and unapologetically intuitive.
A Contemporary Approach to Christian Art
Traditional Christian art has long relied on representational imagery — saints, figures, and scenes rendered in familiar forms. Christian modern art, however, allows faith to be felt rather than explained.
In my work, Christianity is not illustrated — it is embedded.
Scripture may appear scrawled into wet paint, etched quietly into a collage layer, or hidden within a found object assemblage, visible only to those who step closer and look longer. The intention is not instruction, but presence.
This approach places my work firmly within contemporary Christian art, where belief is expressed through abstraction, texture, repetition, and symbolism rather than narrative depiction.
Scripture as Living Material in Modern Art
Scripture entered my work organically and intuitively. Since 2003, I have embedded scripture into my abstract paintings, collage works, and assemblages — sometimes visibly, sometimes concealed — guided by what resonates in the moment.
Scripture functions in my work as:
- A spiritual anchor
- A visual rhythm
- A personal response to lived experience
You will see scripture not only in my abstract paintings, but also integrated into mixed media collage and found object assemblages. In some works, scripture is hidden behind layers or tucked into small openings, revealed only through close inspection — reinforcing the idea that faith itself often unfolds quietly and personally.

The Cross in Contemporary Christian Modern Art
The shape of the cross appears repeatedly throughout my work — in paintings, collage, and assemblage. It is a symbol that holds both darkness and light, suffering and love, grief and transcendence.
In contemporary Christian modern art, the cross does not need to be ornamental or literal. In my work, it may emerge through structure, negative space, material arrangement, or repetition.
The cross has taken on deeper meaning for me over time, becoming not only a spiritual symbol but also a personal one — representing loss, endurance, and continued presence.

Hearts, Coherence, and Spiritual Intuition
Alongside the cross, the heart form is another recurring shape in my Christian modern art. My interest in the heart is both symbolic and physiological. I often combine abstract heart forms with scripture. There are many scriptures involving the heart and you will see these scriptures embedded into my abstract paintings / prints in a very modern way.
Found Object Assemblage as Faith Practice
Assemblage plays a central role in my Christian modern art practice too. Working with discarded and reclaimed materials allows me to create work that is both spiritually resonant and environmentally conscious.
Many of my assemblage pieces sit unfinished for months — sometimes years — waiting for the exact object to present itself. This process mirrors faith itself: patient, intuitive, and unresolved until the moment of clarity arrives.
I am drawn to assemblage as a way of transforming what is overlooked or discarded into something meaningful — a reflection of redemption, renewal, and grace.

Faith, Intuition, and Process
My abstract paintings flow almost entirely through instinct and intuition — immediate, emotional, and unfiltered. Assemblage and collage are also intuitive, but they require a different kind of listening: placing, moving, removing, and re-placing until each element settles into its rightful position.
Both approaches are rooted in faith and intuition, but expressed through different processes. Painting is a release. Assemblage is a conversation.
Christian modern art, for me, lives in that balance.
Contemporary Christian Art Rooted in Authenticity
I understand that scripture-based contemporary | modern art does not resonate with everyone — and that is okay. I create artwork first and foremost in response to what I feel called to make.
My work is not designed to persuade. It is designed to be honest.
Over the years, collectors, galleries, and viewers have connected deeply with my Christian modern art because it feels lived-in, intuitive, and sincere. It reflects faith as something personal rather than performative.
My Ongoing Work Combining Scripture & Art
Today, I continue to create modern Christian–themed artwork through abstract painting, collage, and assemblage, guided by scripture, symbolism, and intuition. When I began embedding scripture into my abstract paintings in 2003, scripture was rarely seen within modern and contemporary art contexts. This work helped establish a space where faith and contemporary abstraction could merge—allowing collectors to experience scripture within modern interiors in a way that feels authentic, relevant, and timeless.
This body of work has never been a trend for me. While I am grateful to see a growing openness to modern Christian art, my own work in this space began simply as a response to a calling rather than an intention to meet a market. Bringing scripture and prayer into contemporary and modern art has been a practice I have returned to again and again over the years—one that has evolved slowly and thoughtfully, grounded in faith, material, and process.
